Kaya Mayberry

Kaya discovered her passion for dance at the age of ten when she first stepped into the studio at Soul Connexion. What began as one recreational class, ended up igniting her love for movement, performance, and connection through the art of dance. Over the years, she trained and competed in a variety of styles, including jazz, contemporary, lyrical, hip hop, and ballet. While dancing at Soul Connexion, Kaya had the opportunity to dance at notable events such as the Disneyland Parades and halftime at the Harlem Globetrotters. It was also at Soul Connexion that she first discovered her passion for teaching, assisting in a Tiny Toes ballet class. She found her joy in supporting young dancers as they embarked on her dance journey.

Her high school years were marked by a new type of dance experience, sharing her passion with peers of all dance ability, including those with little or no formal training. This sparked a deeper purpose for Kaya, bringing dance to spaces where it isn’t always accessible and fostering confidence, creativity, and community through movement.She went on to choreograph and teach students from Kindergarten through Grade 12, developing both her leadership and choreography skills. This experience solidified her commitment to arts education and further developed her passion to help young dancers explore their full potential.

During her two years as a performer in the cast of Calaway Live, Kaya had the unique opportunity to engage with young audiences, bringing joy and wonder to countless children through interactive performances. Balancing the demands of Calaway Live required a significant time commitment, which instilled in her a strong work ethic and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities effectively.

Currently, Kaya is pursuing a double major at the University of Calgary, working towards a Bachelor of Arts in Dance and a Bachelor of Education. She has just completed her first year, with a strong focus in contemporary dance. She is passionate about expanding her knowledge as both a dancer and an educator and looks forward to using her training to inspire the next generation.
